 We can't just "cancel" Nursing Homes.

America needs a new vision for what residential communities for elders and younger people living with disabilities can be.

Family care partners are already at bandwidth. In 2020, there were 48 Million Americans caregiving for an adult.

The number of 85+ year-olds is expected to quadruple between 2000 and 2040. Everybody wants to "age in community," but as the demand for care outpaces the supply, home-based support becomes even less feasible than it is now.

 Care communities are the only way to avoid a massive workforce shortage. Think about it: a care partner tending to three people is 200% more efficient than a home aide assigned to one. 

In 2022, The National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) released a 600 page report called "The National Imperative to Improve Nursing Home Quality." Live Oak Project recommends reading the report (or perhaps a summary) to better understand how the USA delivers, finance, measures, and regulates the quality of Nursing Home care.
